The Lower Eel River from Benton to the St John River is "prime" . I was part of a flotilla of nine boats and 12 people that did it Saturday, April 18th. The flotilla included: Paul M & Beth J -OT Appalachian; Mike G. & Nikki B. - OT Camper; Richard W - OT Disco 158; Sean - OT River Charles Nick - WW Kayak Moon J. & Sharon W. - Esquif Passage; Dan B. - Esquif Vertige; Janine P. - Dagger Me (Dino K) - OT Cascade We were on the River around 10:30am and off around 5:30. The surprise of the trip was Rich W. doing the fall in the little kayak. Anyone interested in seeing Rich go over the falls in the little kayak? sammy,
I must say I'm impressed - you get around ! we're going to do the Tay in a few minutes. I drove over to the south Tay at Royal road this morning and it was around the same level you reported it to be when you did it last. Pete

Tyson and I also ran the Eel on Saturday. Water levels were great and so was the weather. I think we were in by 9:30 so we must have just missed you Dino. It was kind of a last minute decision once we realized levels around town were low. Looks like rain this week though so we will hopefully have plenty of options next weekend.

Mitch: Were is the love, brother? No call to my cell? No heads up? You are one cold-hearted son of a gun. We could have expanded the flotilla and saved you some shuttle gas. Dino

Nice looking stretch of river! Thanks for adding the clips Dino, is there any other water like that on the rest of the river? Going to have to run this river now and check out the scene of carnage first hand Derek

As we headed for the Shogomoc, I passed a truck with a trailer of canoes and a kayak in the back of the truck, I figured it was headed to the Eel River.
Just an FYI, the falls is doable on the left side also with a good boof (it is fairly shallow - a shelf probably 2 feet under water).
For the kayaker of the bunch, how was the play hole on the lower half of the river. The one that has the sand bar on the right side and good eddy access on either side.
Cheers

I must say it was so great on Saturday the Dan, Mike and myself went and did it again. We put in via Cantebury. What a sweet ride. Lots to play and practice on.
bye for now, J9

IN REPLY TO DBRADFORD There are NO other falls, but there are some very interesting corners , and lots of bailing to be done. Much better paddlers than me have had a swam on the Lower Eel. I hear that even Mike C and Hugh C dumped on one nasty little turn and... me I've had 3 swims on my first three out of 6 runs on the lower Eel ;D. About time to push that envelope and get in another swim. Nice looking stretch of river! Thanks for adding the clips Dino, is there any other water like that on the rest of the river? Going to have to run this river now and check out the scene of carnage first hand Derek
