I finally have my own garage now and needed to find a solution to store my canoes. After realizing I am wasting all the space above my vehicle, I found a website that best suits my situation. I found all the commercial hoists and racks too expensive. I copied off this site for the most part: www.mistercanoehead.com/storage.htmlI was able to hang six canoes without affecting any space. I bought all my pulleys, rope, etc in bulk. It worked out to about $20 per canoe. It is certainly cheaper than the alternative but can still get a little pricy depending on how many you want to hang. I like this system because I can load and unload all the canoes without any help. Here are some pics:
