I am looking for nylon strapping, preferably 6mm in width, and thin as ribbon, to refinish my canoe seats. The holes aroung the frame are pencil-wide, so I can't use thick strapping for the job. Does anyone have have any ideas where I can buy this? Fabricville doesn't have what I need. They have heavy "grosgrain" ribbon, but that will rot in one season, I'm told.

Wheelers say they sell 1-inch nylon webbing. Maybe it'll fit if I skip every second hole. I gotta drive down and check it out, I'll let you know how I make out.

I got some "water-resistant" 1" nylon webbing from Wheelers, a local bag maker in Lincoln. I had to cut the end and taper it like a tongue, then soap it to jam it up through the holes then pull it through with pliers. A brute-force job. It'll take me a couple of hours to do both seats. I'll deal with DAS when the time comes. I'll show a picture when I'm done. Thankfully it's been warm this week, so I've been able to work in the sun in the back yard.

I bought two unfinished seats (frames only) and a thwart to install in my canoe to replace the existing seats that the previous owner installed to closely. 2 seats and a thwart at greatspirit canoe for $15 total... just a little over my budget but what do ya do? I've aquired a large amount of nylon webbing similar to Kens but it's white and maybe 3/4" wide..... its meant to be submersed in water filled conduit so it shouldn't rot. If anyone is interested in trying a repair job like Ken did I should have lots of nylon to spare...no charge.... no warranty either. Jamie
