I am thinking about buying some of those D-ring anchors from MEC for my discovery 169. How can I secure these in? Vinyl tec says it works with pretty well everything, but it doesn't mention polyethylene. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, my canoe manual says I should polarize the hull with a propane torch before attempting to bond anything to it. What is that about? Is that necessary?

i heard the same thing about the flame treatment for the poly. it's suposed to give more surface area for bonding i think. call old town they should be able to give you a defenite answer.

Pete,
What is your canoe made of? Everywhere I look on the Net tells me nothing bonds (well) to polyethylene. I guess I should have researched that before I ordered a bunch of D-rings from MEC.

Dave,
It is Royalex. Makes no difference though, the primer is key to prepping the surface and the ABS/PVC cement chemically bonds like integrates permanent sort of thing. I attached my foam knee pads permanently in place using the same stuff.
On there ! Pete
