Cialliad Mille Failte - From down in Cape Breton!!
My wife and I are life-long paddlers and have enjoyed routes throughout North America.
I am currently planning several extended trips in Northeast Canada and I welcome any advice on remote 8-10 day routes in the region (New Brunswic, Quebec) that could be run by a group of 6-10.
I already have one trip planned for the Keji/Tobeatic in Nova Scotia, but I need a few more ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
BB

Welcome! I'm not sure what your definition of remote is, but I would highly, highly, highly recommend Reserve La Verendrye in Quebec. It's roughly a 5-6 hour drive north of Montreal. The reserve itself is 13,000 square kilometres - with, if I'm right, 2000 km of canoe routes. Circuits range from those that are groomed annually, to every 2 years, to never. I've been there many times - and you can go days without seeing anyone else, or only a fishing boat in the distance and float plane overhead. There are many circuits that are laid out for you, maps that go with them and detailed description of what to expect. At the check-in point you can rent all the equipment you need - whether just the canoe, tents and sleeping bags, or even all the food you'll need for the trip. Check out their website: www.canot-kayak.qc.ca/la_verendrye/siteEn/index1.htmCheck out this website, it raves about LaVerendrye and gives more detail that I do: www.parkerclan.ca/laverendrye.phpIn NB I've been down the Restigouche and rivers that connect to it. Restigouche is great early on (May/June) but not when it gets warmer and is then swamped with canoeis, power boats, etc... But even then the river that connects to it - the Upsalquitch was almost dead quiet in July when there were over 200 canoes being put into the Restigouche. Talk to Andre at Canoe Restigouche - he can help you out with that area (http://www.canoerestigouche.ca/english/index.htm) . But I doubt you'll find a trip as long as 8-10 days. Enjoy the trip! Bones
