Hey guys. Love the site. I have been down this section of the Miramichi 4 times now, and I have loved it each time. However, each time I went with my father, who took care of everything.
Now I am going to run it on my own, with some friends that have done the St Croix. The trouble is, ALL I remember is the NAME of where we put in, half-moon, and I can't remember how the heck we got there.
Also, my father had a map of the stretch of river with pen-marked campsites and where Burnt Hill rapids were and where to take out to go see the abandoned mine and the double-falls.
I was wondering if anyone here could give me driving directions to the hayesville bridge (I think that was where we used to take out) and half-moon.
I was also wondering if anyone knew of a map of the river somewhere that would have details of the river, i.e. rapids and that little island you can camp on etc.
Thank you for your time.
Michael Manning.

Take a look at reply #6 under "Dungarvon for Newbies" in "have you paddled suchandsuch river". There is a link to maps including the miramichi. I think you can probably see the roads and rapids on these maps. I see that half moon is marked.

half moon is 32 Km out the williamsburg rd (hwy 107) from the corner (107 & 625) at cross creek. The "short cut" between boiestown and cross creek (Stanley) is in bad shape (signs up... road closed) it is passable but I wouldn't recommend it in a car. Find Holtville on the map and look for the bridge thats Norrads..... Jamie

Hey Carm, I just looked at your website link concerning your Miramichi trip in June 2006. Thanks for mentioning me ("Tom") The other name that should be mentioned under "New friends found" is Pat Sullivan. Take it easy, Tom

Hi, Don't know if you are familiar with the great book of maps the gov't sells. There is an olnine site. More info re: roads etc. than the one I had posted that Dave mentioned. Go here: www.snb.ca/gdam-igec/e/2900e_1a.asp(You will see the Province broken up into squares; each being a seperate relatively detailed map. You want map # 53 and no doubt other adjacent maps: note the numbers of the other maps that would cover the areas you need for the trip). Anyway; click on map # 53 ("Coldstream") and then hit the "I accept-download map" button on the window that comes up. (It's a government site). Half Moon Pit is in the upper right hand corner. ("E-1"), you will have to enlarge the image. (pretty sure it's a .pdf file). Enjoy your trip.

Ya, the SNB site is great. One year I printed a couple of those maps out, taped them together and put some MacTac on them. I gave it to my friend who was doing his first run down the Miramichi. You can also download aerial photos of the province from this site. Take it easy, Tom
