Buddy of mine from Halifax saw the forecast and is heading down to Fred'n. Now we have to decide where to go. I'm assuming water levels are (dangerously?) high everywhere. I'd love to hit a smaller river or stream that is usally unnavigable during the summer. We may stay overnight Sat. Recommendations would be appreciated. I'd like to hit something new-to-me. I've never attempted the Dungarvon or Piskehegan. I have already done the Miramichi, St.Croix, Restigouche, Tobique, Nepisiquit, etc.... I need recommendations by 6am Saturday morning:-) Gimme a shout if you're interested at spamenot@nbnet.nb.ca

Hey Carm, Have you ever tried Eel River? If you put in at Bear Trap point you could take the weekend to paddle down to Meductic. Be warned, there is a falls just below Benton that needs to be portaged. Here is a picture of you from the Miramichi last June; Hopefully you weren't trading spit in your whisky bottles on this trip. Take it easy, Tom

We ended up doing the Tay Creek this afternoon. Awesome run! Water was just perfrect! High enough to be exciting but not nerve wracking. Had to bail a bit after the ledges, but otherwise good stuff. Always impressive to be canoeing with huge icebanks on both sides of the river. I know I'll be doing this one again....Thanks again Nanook for the phone advice... Carm

Carm,
I'm glad you had a good run. I hope to run the Tay myself soon.

Carbon copy of post I made on the South Rusagnois post We did the South Branch Rusagonis today (April 22) after doing the Tay Creek yesterday. We brought all our gear to sleep out Sat night, but ran the Tay faster than we expected (as usual) so went home. Beats sleeping in -3 weather. Brett and I tend to forget to pull over when we're canoeing solo. On the South Rusagonis today, everything was great, water levels are on their way down, but just enough for a good time. Anyhow, we had to push over the beaver dam near putin up on OLeary road and after that was a nice run. Brett ran the ledges with barely a trickle of water entering his Appalachian. I, on the other hand, wasn't as lucky. Somehow I got snagged on one of the ledges and when my canoe was turned sideways I got a LOT of water in the boat. Almost flipped 3 or 4 times because of all the water in my ancient Discovery 174 and things were not looking good as I went down final ledge with 1/2 my body in water while I'm still in my canoe!!! Luckily I was able to hit shore b4 I lost anything. The next few rips b4 bridge would have been IMPOSSIBLE with the water I had in my boat. We bailed and within minutes were on our way again... Looking forward to the pics from the dsiposable camera I brought.
