I just filled my "floatation" bags today with a bunch of styrofoam that I picked up from Truefoam across the highway from the Co-op. I'm hopeing it will work ok for floation or at least it will help displace the water in my boat if ( when ) I sink it.
For the past 2 years going down the Chi i've had commercial milk dispenser bags filled with air stuffed in my float bags they worked fine too.

i bought some tractor trailer tubes from provincial bandag last year. they were used and i think they were 10 or 15 bucks apiece. float bags would defenately be a lot better but the tubes make a huge difference. i flipped my appalachian screwing around in tay falls last year and my friend caught it for me downstream, he said he notice a major diference when trying to wrestle it to shore.

I have an antique Blue Hole OCV Prowler..... www.kayakshack.com/blueholecanoe.cfm Bought it off a millitary guy in Oromocto. It came with a couple float bags basically made out of blue tarp material shaped to fit in the bow and stern of the canoe. Just unzip them and fill them with something that will float....... I just started paddling solo in it this year and won't be doing tandem again... jamie
