Hey everyone let me first introduce myself. My name's Matt and I've been canoeing and building cedar striped canoes ever since I was 15. I'm 19 now. I'm a strong believer that you can never have to many canoes. I am currently building my third one. I stumbled upon this site trying to from information about the Lepreau river as I'm looking at doing a 2-3 day canoe trip. I want to enter at victory lake and take out where the river goes under highway #1. Does anyone have any pictures of the river and what to expect and watch out for?
Thanks
Matt

Hearsay I know, but folks I've spoken with say the river has many falls and runs quite steep. Anybody else know anything?

There are spots to paddle a canoe on the Lepreau, and there are spots to avoid for sure. There are several accesses where you can look at a couple of features. Drive the Lepreau Road- that is the dirt road that runs from Route 785 to the community of Lepreau used for logging, etc. Access from the 785 is the road that goes to West Long/ Victoria Lakes. Turning the other way heads toward McDougall Inflow at this intersection. You will cross the Lepreau where it exits Victoria Lake, then again at a long riffle looking upstream. Park here and walk downstream... I have heard of people going from Victoria Lake to this bridge, but don't miss the exit point! You will see what I mean. There are several other drops (Keyhole for example) which also are a 'little tricky'- by that I mean big consequences like death!. Along the 'Lepreau Road' (if that is what it is called) you can scout some of the deadwater sections as well. Going to Route 1 will involve some major portages and I would love to hear how you make out if you go? Some of the falls are named on the 1:50,000 scale maps.

That's a river I've steered clear of. Please make sure you know where the falls are, and pull out well ahead of them!
