This year will be my 3rd time after learning of it on FB but after talking to people there sounds like it's been going on for >20 years. The water is cold & fast which makes it exciting, you pretty much only have to steer. Lots of camp fires along the way to warm up at if you get wet. Usually quite a crowd of all ages & anything that floats. Several videos of it on YouTube as well as FB pages youtu.be/XYee2RO7RdsSome info & tips here. pollettrun.lostcaper.com/Pollett_information.htmlI'm really looking forward to it. Anybody else going? Who has more fun then rednecks?! HaHa It's always a laugh, lots of people on & around the river. Where else can you get a BBQ'd burger or dog for a couple bucks without getting out of your boat?

Remember to respect private proprety, there are a number of land owners who have reported issues and damages with the drunks from this river run. That looks bad on all us paddlers.

Hey, respect all property. It sickens me to see videos of folks driving their trucks and ATVs through mud just for "fun." This shows a complete lack of respect for the Earth.
There, I've said it. Let the flames begin!

i enjoy having some beverages and cruisin down an easy floatin river from time to time, but try to avoid the giant river parties now. just dont like seing all the garbage thrown in and the abandoned river craft after the rafts break up. ive also spent enough time rescueing people that lost their paddles, boat, gear, shoes, beer and brains on other nb rivers, i dont mind helping river folk who need it, but most of them dont have enough brains to wear a life jacket when the water is just above freezing it. anyway enough ranting.enjoy the show. maybe you can encourage a few to pick their cans, or at least show how by example. on the positive side, ive gone down other rivers after such events and found lifejackets, paddles, chairs, beer and coolers. once i even found a dozen beer in a cooler when we were almost out of beer. good to bring extra bags for cans and trash.

I am glad you said it. I hate this "event" it is embarassing and has nothing to do with tradition of canoeing. After last year's news stories of "canoeists" breaking down fences and threatening land owners while they tresspassed this "event" should be shut down. The garbage is still strewn along the bank 3 months later. The "Pollett River Run" has nothing to do with the sport of canoeing. If you want a run, do the Labrador City Run in a month from now, it feature wilderness canoeists from all over the world and no drunken fools. Even the run in Maine is better organized and more representative than than this environmental degratation on the Pollet River. I put this run in the same class as Frackers!

Don't have the time to go to Labrador kayaking. This is a fun day close to home & a nice change from the slow boring Nashwaak. Guess I'm not so old I forget what it's like it be young & play in some mud. The majority respect the river, but it only takes a couple to ruin it.

Typically we spend weeks cleaning up after this. My strangest find was a V8 engine. Who brings a V8 engine and why? How do you get it out of the river when you do find it??? The record was 43 garbage bags on one run. Does any one want to join me for a clean up run the weekend after. We can do it for "The Great Wilderness Clean up" a global clean up event. canoenb.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=environment&thread=410&page=2

I love to party hard in the woods but I would rather spend a day at work than be involved in that hot mess.

I was down Easter Sunday. The water level was extremely low and there were a few sweepers spanning the river. As is, a canoe needs wading and a raft will not make it on most of the rapids.
It needs a lot of rain. I would say it is easily 4 feet lower than normal for this time of year.

Well 3 weeks from today is the annual river run. Questioning if the river will be flowing by then with all the snow & ice still in NB. Here's a video somebody made last year www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1pfHXRJg0I

Annual run this coming Saturday the 25th. Few pages on FB preaching to bring out what you take in so hopefully the cleanup isn't as bad as years past.
Anybody attending? 3 I know of from Fredericton going & a few from SJ.
