I just paddled this beautiful river today in a 16 ft kayak. The water level on the Miramichi was 1.4, and there was just enough water on the Dungarvon for a kayak, as long as you don't mind scraping some rocks. The run between the Holtville Road bridge to Ledgie Landing bridge was 15k, and took me 2 hours of good paddling. The run through "The Jaws" and "The Narrows" was fun with just adequate water. The more quiet stretch from Ledgie Landing to the Renous was very pleasant and with deeper water. I took out at the Grainfield bridge over the Renous. It was about 48 k, and was 6 hours of fast paddling. This stretch could be done by canoe now, but the first 10k below Ledgie Landing has some bump and scrape sections. Don't take yer fancy cedarstripper.

Sounds great, I have a 16ft Old Town Cayuga and figured it might handle that river. I wish I had known you were going, none of my usual companions are interested in a run longer than 20km or 4 hours of floating. It's great to know it's runnable at 1.4 on the Main SW @ Blackville, i'll have to lobby Ken to include that info on his water level reference guide. Please look me up if you care for company on any future sea kayak trip. I haven't had many opportunities for a run that would push the abilities of mine. I think most canoeists would shudder at covering 50km in a single day in low water.

I've done over 50Kms in a canoe one day, but by chance, not choice +/- 20 years ago, prior to GPS, much use of the internet and before I could even afford an NB road map, let alone topos, we ran the Miramichi from Juniper to the Holtville bridge. Heard it was a 3 day trip and was trying to do in 2 days so I had the whip out, refusing to let anyone in party stop or rest, even after one crew had swamped and were freezing (early spring). No one was very happy with me when we saw that Holtville bridge right before dusk Water levels were VERY high....
